Kaye Kanne, Executive Director
Kaye Kanne, is a Certified Professional Midwife and a Certified Direct-Entry Midwife. She trained in Oregon and New Mexico before moving to Juneau in 1984 where she established Southeast Maternity Services. Kaye served two terms on the State Board of Licensing for Certified Direct-Entry Midwives in Alaska, which she was instrumental in establishing. Kaye started the nonprofit Juneau Family Birth Center in 1996, and opened the birth center in 1998, as part of her longstanding commitment to provide midwifery care to women and families in our community. Kaye is still very involved inproviding midwifery care to families in Juneau while serving as our Executive Director. Kaye recently earned a Certificate in Nonprofit Management. Kaye is married and the mother of three grown children, two born at home.

Jan Rutherdale, Board Chair
Jan Rutherdale has been on the JFHBC Board since September 2008 and has been the JFHBC board chair since September 2009. She has worked for the State of Alaska, Department of Law as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Division, Child Protection Section since 1988. Before that she was an assistant public defender for five years. Jan is married to Jeff Bush, a founding member of the Juneau Family Birth Center and is the mother of two grown daughters, both born at home. She joined the board because she strongly believes in the importance of having an array of birthing choices available in Juneau and wants to support the JFHBC in its growth as a community health center.
Diana Rossmiller, Founding Board Member & Secretary
Diana Rossmiller is a current and Founding Board Member of the Juneau Family Health and Birth Center. She has served as the Secretary to the Board since its inception. Her long affiliation with the JFHBC supports her belief that everyone deserves equal access to quality health care. She feels that women and their families are empowered when they are respected, given privacy, and trusted to do the work surrounding birth. Diana is co-owner and office manager of the Juneau Veterinary Hospital where she works with her husband, Dr. Michael A. New. She homeschools her three children, all of whom were born at home.

Liz Clement, Board Member
Liz Clement joined the JFHBC Board in 2008, soon after her son was born at the center, grateful for an opportunity to volunteer ongoing thanks for the inspired birth experience her family enjoyed. Since 2007, she has served as staff to various state legislators, focusing on health, social services, community development, economic, and natural resource issues. Prior to that, she spent several years administering grants and contracts for the State of Alaska. She is especially committed to JFHBC's efforts to provide indiscriminately smart, safe, compassionate, and empowering care to birthing families, as well as high quality primary care to individuals at all life stages, regardless of clients' financial situation. She plans to see the center thrive for generations to come.

Julia Francis, Board Member
Julia Francis decided to join the Board in October 2010, and she became the Finance Chair in September 2011, after her two children were born naturally and beautifully at the Birth Center with midwives Kaye Kanne and Becca Van der Water. Julia supports the JFHBC because she agrees with its philosophies concerning birth, women’s care, and the welfare of the newly born children. Julia was raised in Fresno, CA and received her BS in Biology and BA in Anthropology at UC San Diego in 2001. She moved to Juneau, AK in April 2003 to work on whale watch boats for Allen Marine, where she met her husband, Curtis. Julia continues to work year round as a boat captain for Allen Marine Tours.
Aleria Jensen, Board Member
Aleria Jensen grew up in Douglas as a fourth generation Alaskan, and made her way back to Juneau in 2004. She holds a BS in biology from Macalester College and an MS in conservation biology from the University of Maryland. Aleria currently works as a marine mammal specialist for NOAA Fisheries. She joined the Board in 2010, two years after the birth of her son Atagan. She and her partner Kevin chose JFHBC for its nurturing and collaborative midwifery approach to pregnancy, birth and parenting. Aleria joined the Board to contribute back to JFHBC for the positive role it has played in the life of her family. She is committed to the values of midwifery and affordable and accessible health care. She believes the presence of JFHBC in Juneau serves a vital purpose as a place to honor and encourage birth as a natural, creative, and intuitive process, and also as a place to celebrate families, provide education, promote healthful living, and build community. Aleria brings strengths in writing, program coordination, and project management to her role as a member of the Board.
Sharron Lobaugh, Board Member
Sharron Lobaugh has a BS in Art and Masters Degrees in Education and Psychiatric Rehabilitation. She joined the Board in 2011, after the JFHBC provided a community meeting place for her to teach classes to families of persons with mental illness. She was so impressed with how accommodating and caring the staff was that she wanted to further promote JFHBC in our community by serving on the board. Sharron is an artist, retired teacher, and retired state employee. She was married to Cliff Lobaugh, who received outstanding care from Dr. Haight at the Juneau Family Health & Birth Center before he passed away in 2011. Sharron has four sons, one of whom is a client of Dr. Haight. Sharron believes everyone should have access to health care and wants to support JFHBC as it develops into a strong community health care center.
Katherine Paulick, Board Member
Katherine Paulick, MS, LPC, CDCS, joined the Juneau Family Health and Birth Center Board in 2009. She holds a Master’s degree in Psychology, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor. She currently works as a professional behavioral health consultant, clinical supervisor, and trainer. Katherine is passionate about providing empowering and nurturing support to children and families that recognizes and builds on their inherent strengths. She believes this is also a roadmap and foundation for building and supporting a healthy community of which the JFHBC is such an integral part. She lives in Douglas with her husband and young old daughter.
David Summers, Board Member
David Summers joined the Board in 2010. He has been a small business owner in Juneau for the past 14 years and is also a licensed EMT. He believes the JFHBC provides a critical service in our community. He wants to educate others about the options that exist at JFHBC while working in concert with other medical facilities to provide excellent health care to everyone. David believes that JFHBC is a beautiful place for children to be born and for families to connect with a community of other families. He is father to one daughter named Macy.
