My name is Corlé LaForce and I will be joining the Juneau Family Health and Birth Center as a counselor. It is an exciting time for the Birth Center to be able to expand their services and offer clients mental health care. In addition to working with new and expecting mothers and fathers, I also treat individuals, teens and couples.
Specializing in trauma, I am trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Somatic Experiencing touch and Transpersonal Psychotherapy. These approaches work with the whole person utilizing the wisdom of the body, spirit and mind. Somatic Experiencing is a body-awareness based modality founded in applied interpersonal neurobiology, created by Peter Levine. Levine developed the approach while studying why animals in the wild do not develop PTSD even though their lives are routinely threatened. He discovered that our bodies have an inherent capacity to organically heal trauma when provided with a safe and attuned healing relationship. Current research understands that trauma is held in the body, therefore it is most effective to treat trauma using somatic psychotherapeutic techniques.
Touch-oriented SE and Somatic Resilience and Regulation utilize safe, client-centered physical contact to support nervous system regulation. This work is especially suited for people with anxiety, grief, shame, early childhood trauma, and trauma related illnesses including migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, autoimmune diseases, chronic pain, and IBS. Clients find it relaxing, supportive and profoundly effective. It is my favorite form of therapy to receive due to its deeply transformational impact.
As a bodyworker and doula, I have worked with many peripartum women and infants. I have a soft spot for treating mothers acutely anxious about birth, mothers who experienced traumatic births, and new mothers in extreme duress. I also enjoy working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, shame, grief, ancestral trauma, and who are navigating the challenges of life.
As a long-time Juneau resident, it is a joy to be able to partner with JFHBC to provide care to our incredible community.
I look forward to working with you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
