Free Parenting Education
Three classes with certified early childhood educators, offered for free in partnership with AEYC and Tlingit & Haida Central Council.
Prenatal Parenting - This single session class will focus on the development of movement and sensitivity of your baby while in the womb.
Parenting Your Infant: Birth to Age One -Five parent/baby classes designed to guide you in nurturing and understanding the growth, development, and well-being of your infant. Curriculum includes: the development of movement, the importance of attachment and family, sleep rhythms, cognitive growth and how to help you infant learn, and encouraging the development of language.
Parenting Your Toddler: Ages One to Three -Five parent & child classes designed to help families understand and nurture the healthy development of their toddler. Topics include: the birth of independence, positive discipline & the art of giving choices, routines and rituals, toilet training, and developing language & ‘windows of opportunity’.
Doula Support
One on one support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Includes
home visiting with emphasis on early-bonding, breastfeeding education,
parenting support, and establishing connections with community resources. We have two doulas on staff, and we have a referral network: the Juneau Community Doula Network.
Parenting Support Groups
Two different groups meet each week, one for New Parents (tuesdays 1-2.30pm), and one for Parents of Toddlers (thursdays, 3-4.30pm). Parent-chosen topics
with guest-speakers. Emphasis on education, support, and connecting with other parents in the community. Kids are welcome!
Community Referrals
Information
and referrals on a range of community resources, including: WIC, Housing,
and Public Assistance.
