Hello and Happy New Year!
As we greet 2019, I have found myself reflecting on all our accomplishments and struggles in the last year. 2018 marked the 20th anniversary of opening the Juneau Family Birth Center, and 10 years of being in our new building on Salmon Creek Lane. Our "family" grew by three new office babies this year Eddy, Addi, and Luna. We hosted our annual open house, and fun run with great success. We were unable to host our annual SALT Dinner but are already working on something great for next year!
The midwives have stayed busy this year, supporting over 40 families throughout their pregnancy and birth. It feels fitting that we started 2018 out with the birth of the first baby born in Juneau, and closed the year with one of the last. We are looking forward to the babies to come in 2019!
Our board members changed out bylaws so that we can now act as a membership organization and we have been excited to welcome more members to help support our great mission! With this change, this last year we have been working hard to put more time and focus on how our organization can better support and engage with this great community.
Our board and staff plan to meet in early February for our strategic planning session and are excited to set big goals and find new ways to support Southeast Alaska's families. Additionally, we have been working with the local Knights of Columbus and are in the final stages of getting an ultrasound machine for the Birth Center. Our hope is that this in conjunction with our Donated Healthcare program this will allow us to provide complete care to any and every woman. We will be updating you with more details on this exciting opportunity in the next couple weeks.
We could not have made it this long without the support of families and friends throughout our Southeast Alaskan community, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
