Midwife Transitions

1/30/2019

Tessa Amos, CNM has chosen to step down in her position as a full-time midwife Spring 2019 to spend more time with her young daughter. Tessa is a very smart, compassionate, and caring healthcare provider and we are thankful for her time with us this last year. We were so very lucky to find another midwife with a strong desire to live and practice in Juneau with us. Our new full-time midwife, Alisha de Zagottis will be joining our staff in April 2019.

An Intro from Alisha:

Hello families at Juneau Family Health and Birth Center,

I am a midwife from Washington state who will be joining your midwifery team at JFHBC
this spring. After spending many years traveling between SE Alaska and the lower 48, I am delighted to return again and call Juneau home with my husband, Kelix, and our fluffy dog.

I love what I do. It’s such an honor to guide families through the amazing experiences that come during the childbearing year.

When I first learned about midwifery care, I had one foot in my undergraduate studies
and another in Alaska’s maritime industry. I saw the care midwives provide as an integral
part of community well-being by empowering families through access to quality health
care, education and support. Soon after years of catching fish as a commercial fisherman, I made a steadfast commitment to catching babies as a midwife in pursuit of my passion for community health.

I hold a master's degree in midwifery and botanical medicine training from Bastyr
University. In addition to my time as a doula, my clinical experience includes working with a diversity of families and care providers in the home, birth center and hospital birth
settings throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Most recently I have been serving
the families in Bellingham WA as a midwife at a local community-based birth center.
In my free time I deeply value spending time in wild places and especially cherish being in the mountains. I enjoy snowboarding, venturing in the woods, fishing and being creative in the kitchen. I look forward to meeting each of you and thank you for welcoming my family into yours.
